FAQs - About Autism

Autism, or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects communication and behaviour. It affects individuals differently and to varying degrees.

Early signs may include limited eye contact, delayed speech or non-verbal communication, repetitive behaviours, lack of interest in peer interaction, and hypo /hyper - sensitivity to sounds or textures. It is important to consult a specialist in case any of the above symptoms are observed.

Autism is not a disease and has no “cure.” Early intervention, therapy and support can significantly improve communication and behaviour. However, medication may be recommended for certain symptoms or co-morbidities

The exact cause is unknown. Research suggests that a combination of genetic and environmental factors may contribute to the development of Autism.
